Shady Ground Cover Plants: Irish Moss
Moss grows almost everywhere; on soil, rocks and tree trunks - a few varieties will even grow under running water! This makes moss good for creating structure and form in your garden. Its lush green foliage forms a dense, low-growing mossy carpet, and it is ideal for planting between paving stones or on rock walls. It can be used to guide people through the garden, lining paths or skirting a pond's edge, and will even withstand a reasonable measure of foot traffic.
Irish moss is an evergreen that yields small white flowers in spring. It is low growing - just two to three inches high - and slow spreading. The most favourable conditions for moss are plenty of sunlight and moist, well-drained soil.
